The Brain’s Chemical Factory

šŸ§ Mental and emotional tipĀ šŸ§
.
Your can categorise your brain into 3 main areas. One of these areas is called the limbic system and it is where the brains chemical factory is situated.
.
In the limbic system, stimuli is passed through and chemicals are released from this area of the brain, which are responsible for the emotions that we feel through our bodies.
.
When you are overcome by strong negative emotions, this means the limbic system is working hard to pump out chemicals that have strong reactions throughout your body, causing physical sensations that may cause you a lot of discomfort. Some can be known as fear or anxiety, depression or sadness and even anger or frustration.
.
The issue is, when you are caught up in these strong emotions and you identify with them, your thoughts feed back into the emotion, potentially leading to more emotional suffering.
.
A helpful tip is to recognise when you are experiencing these strong emotions. Once you recognise the emotion, note it and then count to ten.
.
The purpose of this exercise is to get the neocortex involved. This is a different region of the brain that is responsible for conscious thinking. By doing this, you give the limbic region of the brain time to cool off, relieving you from the result of the chemical explosions occurring within that region. This also takes focus away from negative thoughts that may be feeding back into that strong emotion.
