An Interest In Taoist Philosophy
The Taoists talk about something called “the art of effortless living”.
I stumbled across this idea for taking up an effortless approach in many of the things you do in your life. I think what sparked this search for new methods, approaches and philosophies was due to the fact that I was finding it extremely difficult to overcome some of the obstacles that someone who is new to mindfulness may stumble upon.
If you are new to mindfulness, or even experienced, there may be times when you find that you are trying too hard, applying too much effort or striving for something that is already at your disposal.
See, the problem is that sometimes we get so caught up in our desires that we become compulsive. It is a natural reaction for every one, as our desires as humans can be so potent and overpowering, at times.
That Taoist are advocates for this approach of effortlessness in life. This idea of planting the seeds and then backing off is something that captures my attention and puts a small smile on my face because I see so much sense and beauty in it. Planting seeds and then taking the foot off the gas; deploying patience, curiosity and objectivity – these are all wonderful things and they are at our disposal no matter where we go.
